Scope:
Bladder cancer is a genetic disease, driven by the multistep accumulation of genetic and epigenetic factors,
among others. These molecular alterations result in uncontrolled cellular proliferation, cell cycle
deregulation, decrease in cell death or apoptosis, blockage of differentiation, invasion, and metastatic
spread. The particular genetic and protein expression alterations that occur as part of the crosstalk
between these pathways, will in great part determine the biological behavior of the tumor including its
ability to grow, recur, progress and metastasize. The advent of high-throughput methods of molecular
analysis can comprehensively survey genetic and protein profiles characteristic of distinct tumor types
contributing to a better understanding of the molecular events taking place in bladder cancer progression.
The Bladder cancer: Searching biomarkers and targets using genomic and proteomic approaches Meeting,
aims for the discussion on the clinical impact of targets and pathways identified to be altered along
tumorigenesis and bladder cancer progression using genomic and proteomic approaches. Such targets may
underlie a particular clinical behavior and be developed into novel and specific tumor markers. Moreover,
they may lead to the development of targeted therapies, that potentially be tailored to the aggressiveness
of bladder tumors.
