2nd edition of the master starts!

The international and interuniversity master's degree MSc on Bioinformatics for Health Sciences is jointly organised by Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) and Barcelona University (UB), both located in the city of Barcelona. Its aim is to produce graduates with a high level of knowledge and practical skills, able to apply them to solve specific problems in industrial, academic and clinical settings, as well as to develop new computational strategies and tools serving the needs of large-scale biomedical projects. The name Bioinformatics for Health Sciences is a sign of the aim of integrating bioinformatics methods and tools with the biomedical informatics vision.

Barcelona is in a period of extraordinary growth in the biomedical scientific and technological activities and institutions. Related to the latter we should mention the recently created Parc de Recerca Biomèdica de Barcelona (PRBB), of which the UPF is one of the main promoters) and the Parc Científic de Barcelona (PCB, where the UB is the promoter). The Unitat de Recerca en Informàtica Biomèdica (GRIB) and the Unitat de Modelització Molecular i Bioinformàtica (UMMB), coorganizers of the course, count a large number of researchers in bioinformatics and biomedical informatics. The researchers in these units form the core of the teaching staff for the master's degree, which also incorporates a number of experts from other institutions. This heterogenicity of groups guarantees that the degree opens up broad prospects for the professional allocation of the students who complete it.

As far as the student profile is concerned, the degree accepts students of all nationalities with backgrounds in health and life sciences, exact and computer sciences or from other experimental or technological degree as chemistry, physics or engineering. All the activities of the master are carried out in English.

The master is supported by the networks INBIOMED , INFOBIOMED and by the INB. Please, consult on the special conditions for the members of these organizations.
